September 26th-September 30th

September 26th-September 30th

Bonjour grade 2F parents, I hope everyone had a wonderful week.

This week the students worked on:

French: Dictée (corrections from last week as well as the new dictée) et Pré-dictée, we continued read a poem “Les souliers neufs” and we worked on how and when to rhyme in a poem. They also started the reading program with parent volunteers in the class so they had the opportunity to read a book and discuss what happened in the book. We also continued working on les noms in their grammar books.

Science: We continued talking about Liquids and solids, we talked about the importance of water for all living things. We worked on vocabulary words that describe liquids, solids or both liquids and solids. After our little water experiment, they wrote it in their journals what happened once the water was poured in different sized glasses.

Social Studies: We talked about community, how it is important and what kinds of things do we do to help the community grow as well as function. We also talked about what things give us happiness tied to desires and wants. The students had the opportunity to realize that not always things that are expensive and big bring them happiness sometimes it is the little things that do.

Religion: We worked on what are creations of God and how do we use these creations in our lives. They then picked two words that described specific images of the creations of God and wrote it in their journals.

Math: les regularités- We continued working on patterns and began doing many examples in order to have the students understand the process of finding continuous patterns.

Reminder:

Homework: I have given the students a “ticket-out-the-door” acitivity again for this weekend. If they can write full sentences and be specific on what subject as well as what topic was the most interesting to them. Please have them include capital letters as well as a period at the end of the sentence.

I have also asked the students to bring one rock that they find outside that they feel is the best one. We will be reading a book and doing an activity with this rock on Monday.

Merci et bonne fin de semaine!

September 19th – September 23rd

Bonjour grade 2F parents, I hope everyone had a wonderful week.

This week the students worked on:

French: Dictée (corrections from last week as well as the new dictée) et Pré-dictée, we continued activities with les noms propres et les noms communs –supplementary activities as well as a story that I read to them in class and they wrote 1 thing they liked the most about the story at home. We then corrected them in class the following day.

Science: We continued talking about Liquids and solids, I introduced Gas to them and what things were tied to all three. We then talked about water and how putting them in different sized vases and cups will all expand differently even if it is the same amount of water.

Social Studies: Les droits et les responsabilités. We talked about what are needs in life and what are desires. They received pictures and they had to place each one in either needs or desires. We then discussed where each one went and had a debate because some students would put an image in needs and others in desires. They had to explain why they felt it went in that specific section. This activity was done in table groups of 3 or 4.

Religion: We worked on prayer and intentions as well as talked about David and his poems and psalms. We talked about God’s creations and how we should respect them and then I had the students write in their journals 3 things they thank God for in French.

Math: les regularités- We worked with cubes and I asked the students to make a pattern with the different colored cubes they had. We then continued with activities from their math workbooks.

Reminder:

Homework: I have given the students a “ticket-out-the-door” acitivity for this weekend. They will have to write in French 2 things they learned this week. They also have one French book from the library if they could practice reading it with you that would be wonderful.

Thanksgiving food hampers – I will be keeping a bucket in my classroom until they get picked up on September 30th. If you have any (canned tuna, canned salmon, mayonnaise or canned lunch meat) for the kids to bring with them to school that would be wonderful.

Merci et bonne fin de semaine!
